Info

After accidentally coming out of the closet, Deena must undo her mistakees through the only logical method: time travel. Back to the Closet is a fun, sci-fi musical short film created by Spacetube Studios, a student-led production company based in Toronto, Ontario.

I was brought onto the project as the primary sound designer, tasked with building the soundscape for the short film. As a science fiction, this project had many opportunities for other-worldly, creative sound design. What exactly does a time machine sound like? Is it noisy when you time travel?

This project was a great practice in foley, and it gave me the opportunity to get wacky and creative with the sound design. For the time travel machine, I had access to a recording of the actual ratchet attached to the prop, which I combined with the sound of the noisy fan of an old vacuum, and a couple choice whooshes and electrical sparks. With a little editing and effects, it resulted in a cohesive sound effect with great texture and depth.
